COVID-19 Safety Plan

Every employer in British Columbia is required to have a COVID-19 safety plan that assesses the risk of exposure at their workplace and implements measures to keep their workers safe. The plan must be posted at the worksite and posted to the companies website, if there is one.

Below is Nanozen’s COVID-19 safety plan.

For this Plan

We have involved frontline workers, supervisors, and the worker health and safety representative.
• We have identified areas where our employees gather, such as break rooms, production, and meeting rooms.
• We have identified job tasks and processes where workers are close to one another.
• We have identified tools, machinery, and equipment that workers share while working.
• We have identified surfaces that people touch often, such as doorknobs, elevator buttons, and light switches.

First Level Protection

Control measures for maintaining physical distance:
• Work-from-home arrangements wherever possible for office people.
• Limiting the number of visitors/customers (by appointment only).
• Occupancy limit for meeting room.
• Spreading out cubicles to keep employees at least 2 m apart.
• Pod of workers who work together in the manufacturing area.

Second Level Protection

• All cubicles in the office and manufacturing area have partitions.

Third Level Protection

We have identified rules and guidelines for how workers should conduct themselves. We have clearly communicated these rules and guidelines to workers through a combination of training and signage.
• Employees and visitors must self check and sign the sign-in check sheet posted at entrance doors before entry. If any of the questions on the sign-in sheet is answered with YES, entry is denied.
• Sigle use, disposable plates and cutlery in the break area.
• Employees are instructed to wipe down shared tools and equipment after use.
• Instructions in the washrooms to wipe down toilet seats before and after use, and door handles, faucets after use.
• Signage at handwash stations encouraging frequent hand washing.

Fourth Level Protection

We have reviewed the information on selecting and using masks and instructions on how to use a mask.
We understand the limitations of masks to protect the wearer from respiratory droplets.
We understand that masks should only be considered when other control measures cannot be implemented.
• All employees will use masks if social distancing is not possible, e.g., in meeting room.
• Workers were informed of the correct use of masks via “how to use mask” instruction sheet posted on our bill board.
• Visitors, customers, and couriers must wear a mask at all times.

Cleaning Plan

Frequent handwashing is encouraged, handwashing signage is posted at each handwashing location.
• A cleaning contractor dusts, vacuums, mops the floors and takes out the garbage once a week.
• Janitors thoroughly clean and disinfect the washrooms twice a week.
• Employees are instructed by clear signage to keep the washrooms clean and wipe/disinfect the toilet seats before and after use as well as the faucet and door knobs after use. Disinfectant wipes are provided.
• Employees are instructed to wipe down/disinfect shared tools and equipment after use. Disinfectant wipes are provided.
• Employees are instructed to wipe down high contact surfaces after use, e.g., table in the meeting room, shared desks. Disinfectant wipes are provided.
• Door handles are cleaned twice a day, at lunch time and at the end of shift.

Policies

• Anyone who has had symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 10 days must self-isolate at home.
• Anyone who has been identified by Public Health as a close contact of someone with COVID-19.
• Anyone directed by Public Health to self-isolate.
• Anyone who has arrived from outside of Canada must self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms.
• Visitors are limited in the workplace.
• We have a work from home policy in place.
• Our policy addresses workers who may start to feel ill at work. It includes the following:
• Sick workers should report to first aid, even with mild symptoms.
• Sick workers should be asked to wash or sanitize their hands, provided with a mask, and isolated. We will ask the worker to straight home and to consult the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool, or to call 811 for further guidance related to testing and self-isolation.]
• If the worker is severely ill (e.g., difficulty breathing, chest pain), we will call 911.
• Clean and disinfect any surfaces that the ill worker has come into contact with.

Communication and Training

• We have a training plan to ensure everyone is trained in workplace policies and procedures.
• All workers have received the policies for staying home when sick.
• We have posted signage at the workplace, including occupancy limit for the meeting room and effective hygiene practices.
• We have posted signage at the main entrance indicating who is restricted from entering the premises, including visitors and workers with symptoms.
• Supervisors have been trained on monitoring workers and the workplace to ensure policies and procedures are being followed
